Obituary of James Collins

COLLINS, James C. age 81 of Lebanon, Ohio passed peacefully Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Bethesda Arrowsprings Medical Center in Lebanon, Ohio. Born April 5, 1932 in Lebanon, Ohio, James was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and a well respected law enforcement official. James served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force in Korea and later served his community in law enforcement for 35 years. His career began as Police Officer with the Lebanon Division of Police, then Harveysburg and Waynesville Police Departments. James served as a supervisor for 10 years with the Greene County Sheriff's Department, was Chief Deputy under Sheriff Robert Dalton for 4 years, was appointed Sheriff by the Warren County Republican Party in 1986 and was later elected Sheriff serving a 4 year term in 1988... later, he would resign his official duties in 1992 due to health issues. James was a Charter Member of the Lebanon Police F.O.P. Lodge 133, an instructor with the Norwood Police Academy, a member of the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, the National Muzzle Loading Association, a member of the Lebanon V.F.W. Post #6069 and American Legion. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Bob Collins; James leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years Janet (Culbertson) Collins of Lebanon; sons James E. Collins and Thomas J. (Barbara Jean) Collins of Lebanon and David A. (Ruth) Collins of Waynesville; daughter Brenda (Bob) Jacob of Lebanon; sister-in-law Edna Collins of Kentucky; ten grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. Friends may call on the family Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at the Stine Kilburn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm with Pastor Steve Tufts officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery with honors provided by the Military and the Warren County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard.
