Obituary of David Nathan Smith

SMITH, David Nathan age 85 of South Lebanon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Bethesda Arrowsprings. Mr. Smith was born November 4, 1930 in Harlan County, Kentucky. He is the son of Carlo B. and Eleanor (Palmer) Smith. He was a loving devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Smith was a resident of South Lebanon since 1962. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during the Korean War. Mr. Smith was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed sharing this life with his sons. He retired after 26 years of service from the Morrow Gravel Company, Valley Asphalt Corporation, Jurgensen Company. To all of his co-workers he was known as RED. Mr Smith is preceded in death by his parents, son, Challis E. Smith; daughter, Patricia L. Smith; brothers Joe and Carlo B. Smith; sister Betty (Smith) Langford; and granddaughter Tracy (Smith) Gerardot. He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Bernice (Warren) Smith of South Lebanon, Ohio; loving children James David (Teresa) Smith of South Lebanon, Ohio, William N. (Sandra) Smith of Lebanon, Ohio, Jason E. (Christina) Smith of Morrow, Ohio, Kathy B. (Art) Keith of Blanchester, Ohio, Debra K. (Jerry) Maurer of Jacksonville, Florida, Peggy Sue Smith Nommay (Mark) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Tammy L. Mayer of South Lebanon, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith dearly loved his wife and family. He was so proud of all of their accomplishments. He was always willing to share a cup of coffee. He will be sadly missed. The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 29, 2016 from 6pm until 8pm at the Stine Kilburn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 12pm with Rev. Arthur McFarland officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Deerfield Cemetery, South Lebanon, Ohio.
