Obituary of Thelma Spangler
SPANGLER, Thelma (nee Handy) age 90 passed peacefully Friday morning, January 22, 2016 at the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, Ohio. Born March 13, 1925 in Patrick County, Virginia, Thelma was the daughter of Daniel and Callie Handy. Thelma graduated from the Meadows of Dan High School and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Thelma was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary and enjoyed volunteering with the Girl Scouts and participating on a ladies bowling league. She lived in Springfield, Vesta and Martinsville, Virginia before relocating to Monroe, Ohio. Thelma loved to travel and visited over 13 countries in Europe and Central America. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed cooking, gardening and scrapbooking. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she loved to make the season memorable with her talent for decorating and entertaining. Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Benjamin Lesley Spangler, sisters Myrtle Goard and Pauline Clifton and brother James Denver Handy; Thelma leaves behind her loving daughters Phyllis (Miles) Bohning and Vicki Perry; four grandchildren Chris (Jena) Satchell, Mark (Loel) Bohning, Tracy Bohning and Jennifer Bohning; great grandchild Trevor Satchell and sisters Delcie Blades and Irence Joyce.
