Obituary of David Newman

NEWMAN, David William "Dave" age 72 beloved husband of Bonnie L. (Perry) Newman of Lebanon, Ohio passed peacefully Wednesday morning, July 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his daughter Betsy J. , son David W. J. and step-daughter Corie D. Perry along with grandchildren Alison and Jacob Agricola and brothers Charles "Tom" (Kristi) and Richard Newman. February 1, 1941, David was born to Noah and Irene (Lacy) Newman in Dayton, Ohio. Once he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1959, he immediately joined the U.S. Army and greatly enjoyed his time serving in the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After being honorably discharged, he became a salesman for General Films where he learned about the dairy industry. In 1973, David pursued his dream of owning his own business by opening Newman Sanitary Gasket Company. He set out to provide quality gaskets and "O" rings for the dairy industry. He spent a lot of his time out on the road growing the business one distributor at a time slowly growing the business from the ground up. The business expanded, servicing the food, pharmaceutical, dairy and beverage industries with seals to keep their manufacturing centers running. Over a 40 year career, David William Newman had grown his business from his mother's garage into one of the largest manufacturers of high purity process seals in the world. As a proud member of the Antioch Shriners Temple in Dayton, Ohio in 1979, David became a 32 degree Mason. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed spending time in Whiarton, Canada and on August 22, 1994, he set the Bruce Peninsula (Ontario, Canada) record for the largest salmon caught at 33lbs., 5oz. Dave was also a member of the Lebanon Elk's Lodge, Lebanon Eagles Lodge, V.F.W. #6069 and the Dayton Motorcycle Club. He always appreciated a good meal with good company and a rousing game of pitch! David was truly a rare person. He was one of the few able to achieve the antithesis of the American Dream. Coming from humble beginning through hard work, dedication, perseverance and tenacity he was able to build an immensely successful business. Newman Sanitary Gasket Company was the catalyst that enabled him to touch the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people offering gainful employment, charity and fellowship.
