Obituary of Newman John Evans Jr.

Evans, Newman J. Jr, formerly of Tipp City, passed away to his Heavenly reward peacefully on June 20, 2019. Newman was born on May 28, 1929, to the late Newman and Ethel Evans in Buffalo, New York. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Martha Clother, and brothers Robert and Larry Evans.

Newman was a 1950 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a very proud Fighting Irish Fan. While he was a student, the Notre Dame football team did not lose a single game, won three National Championships, and produced two Heisman trophy winners. He was also passionate about his Buffalo Bills and enjoyed watching them every week during football season. Newman loved the game of golf and would bet anyone on every stroke of the game.

From 1950 to 1955, Newman served in the Army Reserves as a railway battalion based in Rochester, New York. He attended railway operations training in Fort Eustis, Virginia. He left the reserves after his unit was disbanded following the Korean War.

Newman had a successful professional career in the building materials industry. He started with Whitmer-Jackson as a sales manager before taking a National Sales Manager job with PEASE industries. In 1980, Newman joined ADAM Wholesalers where he finished his career as General Manager of the Dayton branch.

Newman is survived by his 6 children, Nancy (Craig) Haire, John (Angela) Evans, Elizabeth (Tom) Ludwig, Newman (Megan) Evans, Amy (Doug) Mangen, and Michael Evans. His 15 grandchildren, Nick (MacKenzie), Morgan, Abby (Pat), Ben, Justin, Erin, Anna, Amanda, Matt, Alli, Kyle, Jack, Luke, Sybil, and Audrey. His great-granddaughter, Hadley. His wife Coletta (Dwyer) Evans. His sister-in-law Barbara Evans and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipp City and family will receive friends from 9:00 - 10:00 prior to the Mass.
